For a few reasons...
- too hard to include everything I think should be included. There is so much out there, and so much to be said about everything.
- Too hard to pin down a term. On this site people should be encouraged to think about and challenge terms. I found myself wanting to put a disclaimer on every term about this.
- Relating to the previous point... the possibility that pinning down a term limits critical thought.
- In my opinion, language has this tendency to be based on logic... not fuzzy logic so much as binary logic. A glossary seems to be supporting that. Sometimes when language does not represent the world, only creative/poetic/fluid language can begin to convey the 'truth' (whatever that means)... I liked Lao Tzu for recognizing this. Though he didn't want to write anything down at all :).
- I'm too lazy to keep it up. If you don't understand a term, google or wikipedia it. Better yet, ask... because the way one of us uses a term might not be so common. Using a dictionary for understanding a term on this site ... could be especially problematic :).
- Other reasons as well, I think. I think the underlining of terms in posts is inappropriate. It has the potential to modify the intended message. I could get rid of this... but then people could still go to the glossary manually... so the potential still exists.
In about 4 months, I will have time to work on this site some more. I am taking a philosophy of gender reading course which should be quite interesting and useful :). My prof doesn't understand how gender can not exist... and I myself feel genderless at times... she is a very cool person and we get along brilliantly.
